MECHANICVILLE – Mechanicville police Wednesday recovered a hand-drawn inspection sticker during a traffic stop, the department wrote on Facebook later Wednesday.

The department displayed the fake sticker in a Facebook post Wednesday afternoon, alongside a genuine version, and reminded residents to ensure their vehicles are properly inspected.

“This is a picture of an actual ‘inspection sticker’ recovered today during a traffic stop,” police wrote Wednesday. “Can you spot the fake? We thought so.”

The post had garnered 260 shares, more than 90 comments and more than 300 reactions in its first two hours Wednesday afternoon.

The post continued with the advisement.

“Take a moment and check to make sure your vehicles are properly inspected,” the department wrote. “A properly maintained vehicle is safer for everyone on the road, they perform better, and yearly inspections are required by law.”

Police did not indicate what happened with the motorist upon whose car the sticker was found.
