College hockey: Clarkson blanks RPI men, 5-0; Union women bow to Princeton

POTSDAM — Alex Campbell had a goal and three assists Sunday, leading Clarkson to a 5-0 ECAC Hockey victory over RPI at Cheel Arena.

It was the Engineers’ first game since tying Army 3-3 on Jan. 2. The program had been in COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Campbell assisted on first-period goals by Anthony Romano and Dustyn McFaul.

After Luke Santerno made it 3-0 at 13:32 of the second period, Campbell scored a shorthanded goal 2:27 later.

Campbell picked up his third assist on Mathieu Gosselin’s third-period goal.

The victory completed a weekend sweep of the Capital Region teams for Clarkson (6-2-2 ECACH, 22 points, 11-7-4 overall) The Golden Knights beat Union 8-2 on Saturday.

The Engineers (4-5-0, 12 points; 9-12-3) face St. Lawrence at 3 p.m. today at Appleton Arena.

PRINCETON WOMEN BEAT UNION

SCHENECTADY — Princeton scored four goals in the second period and cruised to a 5-0 women’s ECAC Hockey victory over Union at Messa Rink.

Kate Nonihan broke a scoreless tie 4:55 into the second to give the Tigers (6-3-1 ECACH, 19.5 points, 8-6-3 overall) a 1-0 lead. Mia Coene made it 2-0 less than five minutes later.

Shannon Griffin and Stef Wallace added goals later in the period.

Annie Kuehl added a third-period goal for the Tigers.

Goalie Olivia Rinzel made 38 saves for the Dutchwomen (1-10-0, 3 points; 4-17-1 overall), who host Quinnipiac tonight at 6.
