Albany Police: Arrest made in 2021 shooting death of 15yo Destiny Greene; First-degree murder charged

ALBANY – Albany police have made an arrest in the May 2021 shooting death of 15-year-old Destiny Greene, police said Wednesday.

Branden Rivera, 19, of Albany, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, police said.

Rivera is accused of shooting and killing Greene the evening of May 24, 2021, just before 9:30 p.m. on Wilbur Street.

Officers responded there for reports of shots fired and staff at Albany Memorial Hospital soon notified police that Greene had arrived there with a gunshot wound to her torso. She later died at the hospital.

The ensuing police investigation determined that Rivera had shot Greene during the commission of an attempted robbery, police said.

Rivera was also arrested on a bench warrant from August for a stolen property possession charge, police said.

Rivera was arraigned and ordered held.
