Birchwood Elementary School in the Niskayuna Central School District dismissed students early after an odor that was detected previously and had set off a fire alarm could be smelled again in the building on Thursday.
The district did not elaborate in a statement on its website what the smell was or what was being done to alleviate the odor.
Students were dismissed at 12:30 p.m. by bus. Students who typically attended the after school program at the Jewish Community Center were transported to the center along with kids that attend the Kids Time Program at Birchwood. Students that attend the TSL after school program were taken to Hillside Elementary temporarily before being transported to the program.
All students had lunch, according to the district.
“We apologize for this inconvenience,” stated the schools website. “Given the circumstances, particularly the cold weather, this was the best course of action.”
