Saturday racing at Aqueduct canceled

OZONE PARK — The New York Racing Association, Inc. has canceled today’s live racing program at Aqueduct Racetrack due to a powerful winter storm forecast to impact the New York City metropolitan area.

A National Weather Service winter storm warning went into effect for the downstate region at 7 p.m. Friday and continues through 7 p.m. today. The NWS forecast, which aligns with NYRA’s independent weather services, is calling for 8-12 inches of snow along with sustained high winds with gusts exceeding 45 mph. These conditions will produce dangerously low wind chill values today. As a result, NYRA has canceled today’s card in the interest of the safety of all participants.

Today’s featured Grade 3, $150,000 Toboggan will be re-scheduled for Feb. 5.

A decision regarding opening Aqueduct Racetrack for simulcasting will be made this morning.

Live racing at Aqueduct is slated to resume Sunday, with a nine-race card featuring the $100,000 Jimmy Winkfield. First post on Sunday is 12:20 p.m.
