COLONIE — Raymour & Flanigan has completed its acquisition of Taft Furniture and reopened both Taft stores under its own name.

The former Taft showroom on Central Avenue in Colonie is now an outlet and delivery center, while Taft’s Ballston Avenue location in Saratoga Springs remains a showroom.

The move gives Raymour & Flanigan five locations in the Capital Region: The two former Taft stores plus Raymour & Flanigan showrooms in Clifton Park, Latham and Niskayuna.

Raymour & Flanigan was founded in 1947 with a single store in Syracuse. Today it is based in Liverpool and operates 104 showrooms, 36 outlet stores and five clearance centers across the Northeast and has a growing e-commerce business.

The family-owned business calls itself the largest furniture and mattress retailer in the Northeast and seventh-largest nationwide

Taft had been in operation nearly a half century, and held a liquidation sale in mid-January in preparation for the transition.

Raymour & Flanigan President Seth Goldberg said in a news release: “There’s something really special about shopping with a family-owned business, and we intend to bring that same care that Taft Furniture customers expect to our new locations.”

New York furniture stores made $4.3 billion in taxable sales in the 12 months ending Nov. 30, 2021, according to the state Department of Taxation and Finance.
