Entering the fourth quarter of Saturday’s MAAC women’s basketball game against Iona at UHY Center in Loudonville, Siena had led for all but 23 seconds of the game’s first 30 minutes.

However, Iona unleashed a furious run in the fourth quarter, scoring 28 points in the game’s final eight minutes and 10 seconds to deal Siena a 64-57 loss.

Down 42-36 early in the fourth quarter, a Juana Camilion 3-pointer got Iona (5-7 MAAC, 7-10 overall) started on its game-changing run. The Gaels used a 10-3 burst to take a 46-45 lead on an Olivia Vezaldenos 3 with 6:05 to play.

Siena (6-5, 6-13) briefly retook the lead on a Margo Peterson jumper 26 seconds later, but Camilion answered with a jumper of her own on Iona’s next trip down the floor, kickstarting an 11-2 run that Vezaldenos capped off with another 3 with 1:39 to go that made it 57-49.

Iona pushed its lead to as many as 10 points in the final minute, with Camilion scoring 12 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter.

Vezaldenos and Shyan Mwai added 13 points apiece for Iona.

Peterson led Siena in scoring with 20 points, while Selena Philoxy recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Saints also got 10 points from Deanna Winston and eight from Rayshel Brown.
