High schools: Church scores 23 in Shaker boys’ basketball win over Schenectady


Andrew Church scored 23 points to power Shaker to a 67-55 victory over Schenectady in a Suburban Council boys’ basketball contest Tuesday. Teddy David (13) and C.J. Haver (12) also hit double digits for the Blue Bison. Jakeim Edge scored 16 points to pace Schenectady, Nino Robinson had 15 and Jah-isreal Gains added 11.

Mitchell Mackissock finished with 20 points for Guilderland in a 56-45 victory over Columbia. Ben Fiori netted 14 points for the Dutchmen, while Liam Teague and Sam Oliver each had 10 points. Justin Sapienza scored 15 points to lead Columbia, and David Alaxanian added 12 points.

Zack Carpenter scored 12 points for Saratoga Springs in a 50-46 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Jackson Frame scored 10 points to lead Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.

Mason Courtney finished with 22 points to power Shenendehowa to a 60-50 victory over Bethlehem. Miles Peterson and Carter Seeberger each had 12 points for the Plainsmen. Caden Bernardo, Logan Yohe and Peter Landi all scored 11 points for Bethlehem, while Ali Weatherly had 10.

Averill Park used a 14-5 fourth-quarter to rally for a 40-38 victory over Colonie. Dan Coiteux scored 13 points to lead the Warriors. Jeremy Rosario scored 15 points to pace Colonie, and Brandon Gordon added 11 points.

Three players scored double-digits as CBA defeated Troy 50-42. Matt Sgambati and David Clement each scored 13 points, with Kaelen Leak adding 12. Terrance Clark led Troy with 13 points.


Charles Foote scored 17 points to help Cobleskill-Richmondville post a 48-44 victory over Schalmont in Colonial Council action. Ty LaBarge added 11 points for the Bulldogs. Isaiah Smith scored 20 points to lead Schalmont.

Kyle Cornell scored 15 points to lift Mohonasen to a 60-56 victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Andrew Farnsworth added 11 points for Mohonasen.

Royal Brown scored a game-high 29 points to propel Cohoes to a 60-48 victory over Voorheesville. Marquay Tanksley added 12 points for the Tigers. Carson Carrow led Voorheesville with 20 points, and Bryce Jones had 12.

Adam Meyers poured in 36 points to power La Salle to a 72-68 victory over Lansingburgh. Chrischen Chung added 12 points for the Cadets. Wesley McIntyre scored 20 points to pace Lansingburgh, while James Oliver added 19 points.


Cooper Nadler scored 21 points to help Glens Falls defeat Broadalbin-Perth 64-60 in Foothills Council action. Griffin Woodell had 17 points for the Indians, and Kellen Driscoll added 11. Ryan Savoie led Broadalbin-Perth with 19 points, while Alex DiCaterino had 11 points.

The Hudson Falls trio of Ben Swartz, Peyton Smith and Evan Kwasniewski proved to be too much for Queensbury as the group outscored the Spartans in a 64-43 win. Smith and Kwasniewski each scored 18 points, with Swartz adding 16. Queensbury was led by Zion Freeman with 12 points.


Keyshuan Tillery scored 15 points for Albany Academy in a 68-34 victory over Mount Anthony (Vt.) in a non-league game. Shamiere Green added 11 points for the Cadets. Austin Bellville scored 11 points to lead Mount Anthony.

Mark Edwards netted 22 points to lift Berne-Knox-Westerlo to a 67-48 victory over Rensselaer. Dayne Coates added 12 points for the Bulldogs. Savion Stallworth scored 12 points to lead Rensselaer and Xavier Baker had 10 points.


Carlie Rzeszotarski finished with 25 points to lift Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake to a 70-51 Suburban Council girls’ basketball victory over Saratoga Springs. Callie Chevalier had 15 points for the Spartans, while Grace O’Connor and Mary Kate Lescault each had 10 points. Carly Wise led Saratoga Springs with 21 points, and Natasha Chudy added 17.

Amelia Wood scored 24 points for Averill Park in a 55-38 win over Colonie. Taylor Holohan had 13 points for the Warriors. Jayla Tyler had 16 points to pace Colonie, while Gabrielle Martin and Ava Pearson each had 10 points.

Jillian Huerter finished with 21 points to help Shenendehowa post a 53-35 victory over Bethlehem. Bri Carey scored all 16 of her points in the second half for Shenendehowa. Maren Louridas scored 22 points for Bethlehem.

Jaedyn Shomo netted a game-high 19 points for Shaker in a 54-12 victory over Schenectady. Kaelah Carter added 12 points for the Blue Bison. Zanalli Rodriguez scored four points to lead Schenectady.


In Colonial Council action, Payton Graber scored 21 points for Schalmont in a 51-15 victory over Cobleskill-Richmondville. Gianna Cirilla added 10 points for the Sabres, who led 38-10.

Caitlyn Richmond and Ava Quenneville each dropped 11 points for Mohonasen, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, a 36-34 winner. Hannah Vanderzee led the R-C-S scoring with 11 points.

Carolina Williams scored 23 points to power Ichabod Crane to a 73-67 victory over Albany Academy. Ashley Ames had 16 points for the Riders, Alexa Barkley had 11 points and Malati Culver added 10 points. Saige Randolph scored 18 points to lead Albany Academy. Erin Huban (16), Morgan Vien (14) and Bella Vincent (12) also hit double digits for Albany Academy.


Hailey Phelps finished with 13 points for Mechanicville in a 63-30 win.. Allie Kenyon (12), Ella Zecca (11) and Chloe Goverski (10) also hit double digits for Mechanicville, which led 26-3 after one quarter. Olivia Scarchilli scored six points to lead Stillwater.

Emma Shields netted 26 points to lift Emma Willard to a 64-44 victory over Cambridge. Audrey Shields added 22 points for Emma Willard. Stasia Epler scored 27 points to lead Cambridge.

Tamarac’s Abbie Yetto scored 16 points, with Myanna Faraj adding 14 in the Bengals’ 67-38 win over Saratoga Central Catholic. Allison Motler led the Saints with 11 points.


Duanesburg’s Hannah Mulhern scored a career-high 26 points as the Eagles defeated Fonda-Fultonville 83-66 in a Western Athletic Conference crossover contest. Allison O’Hanlon added 22 points with five assists and five rebounds. Alex Moses added 17 points with five rebounds and five assists.

Brooke Trumble scored 18 points to power OESJ to a 47-35 victory over Fort Plain. Kaylea Hickey finished with 11 points for the Wolves and Anderson Eggleston had 10 points. Erin Crouse scored 18 points to lead Fort Plain, while Maddy Heroth added 10 points.


Albany Academy’s Brayden Henkel captured the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly as the Cadets swam past Albany 112-72. Ethan Rafferty won the 200 IM, Josh Kaufman won the 500 freestyle and Andrew Cataldo won the diving event. Albany Academy also captured the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. 

Albany’s Ya’ir Sasson took the 200 freestyle, Louie Cassella captured both the 100 free and 100 backstroke with Carson Engstrom winning the 100 backstroke.
