MECHANICVILLE — A 36-year-old roofing subcontractor fell to his death from a warehouse expansion project at DeCrescente Distributing Co. on North Main Street Wednesday morning, a state police spokeswoman said.

The man fell approximately 30 feet to 40 feet, and state police responded just before 9 a.m., Trooper Kerra Burns said.

The man’s identity and hometown were not released, pending notification of family, Burns said.

Update: Troopers identify roofer killed in Wednesday Mechanicville fall as Rensselaer County man

The man was not employed by DeCrescente — rather, he was a subcontractor doing work on the property, she said.

DeCrescente and BBL Construction issued a joint statement about the accident:

“This morning, a fatal accident occurred involving an employee of a contractor working on the DeCrescente warehouse expansion project in Mechanicville. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the person who passed away. State Police and emergency personnel responded promptly and remain on the scene.
