RIVERDALE – Playing catchup all night, the Siena women’s basketball team nearly got there, but fell to Manhattan 69-61 at Draddy Gymnasium on Monday night.

The Saints dropped to 6-9 in the MAAC and 6-17 overall, and the Jaspers improved to 10-5 and 15-9.

Siena trailed by as many as 24 points in the second quarter, but outscored Manhattan 19-8 to close out the period and get within 38-27 at halftime.

The Saints went into the fourth quarter trailing by 12 and got within 60-57 with 4:08 left in the game on a 3-pointer in transition by Anja Knoflach for her only points of the game.

Rayshel Brown led Siena with 18 points, but fouled out with 3:08 left, and Courtney Warley’s ensuing free throws gave Manhattan a 63-57 lead.

Margo Peterson, who scored all 13 of her points in the second half and had nine in the fourth quarter, hit a 3-pointer with 1:57 left to get Siena within 65-60, but the Saints didn’t get any closer.

Selena Philoxy scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds for Siena.

Jenna Jordan led the Jaspers with 19 points, and Warley finished with 16 points and grabbed 19 rebounds.
