
Mia Carmody’s 25 points led Voorheesville past Mekeel Christian Academy 72-20 on Thursday in a play-in round game on the opening night of the Section II Class B girls’ basketball tournament.
Reese Hoenig added 16 points for No. 13 seed Voorheesville, which will travel to No. 4 Ichabod Crane for its next game on Saturday.
Moon Taylor’s nine points led No. 20 Mekeel Christian, which trailed 14-4 after one quarter and 36-6 at the half.
No. 14 Cohoes beat No. 19 Hudson 50-33, with Cam Chicaway and Julia Marcil each scoring 11 points for the victorious Tigers. Anya Moore led Hudson with nine points. Cohoes, which will visit No. 3 Catskill in the next round on Saturday, did all of its scoring in the first three quarters and led 50-18 after 24 minutes.
No. 15 Greenville led 32-12 at halftime of its 67-26 win over No. 18 Watervliet, with Bryn Fitzmaurice scoring 19 points to lead four players in double figures. Greenville will visit No. 2 Mechanicville on Saturday.
No. 17 Bishop Maginn beat No. 16 Coxsackie-Athens 50-29 to set up a meeting Saturday at No. 1 Schalmont.
In a Class C play-in round game, No. 17 seed Hadley-Luzerne beat No. 16 Canajoharie 59-32, with Madison Lent scoring 21 points and Jordanna Kenny scoring 19 for Hadley-Luzerne. Canajoharie was led by 10 points from Charlotte Nare and nine points each from Felise Fowler and Kaijah Fowler. Hadley-Luzerne will visit No. 1 Duanesburg on Saturday.
Julia Reedy scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the first half of No. 15 Galway’s 52-30 win over No. 18 Waterford-Halfmoon. Galway, which will visit No. 2 Greenwich in the next round, also got 10 points from Emma Spadaro. Waterford-Halfmoon received nine points from Sophia Belonga and eight each from Isabella Vacho and Maddy Atwood.
