Head coach Abigail Rehfuss' Siena women's lacrosse team fell to 1-1 with a loss at Pittsburgh on Friday.

PITTSBURGH – It was close for one quarter, but Pittsburgh outscored Siena 8-2 over the second and third quarters to take control on the way to a 12-5 non-conference women’s lacrosse game at Highmark Stadium on Friday.

The Saints fell to 1-1 after having opened the season with an 18-6 victory at New Hampshire last Saturday.

Pitt led by just 2-1 after the first quarter, but outscored Siena 4-1 in the second, including two goals by Paige Petty in the final three minutes of the quarter, to take a 6-2 halftime lead.

The Panthers increased their lead to 10-3 through three quarters on an eight-minute 4-0 run that included Kate Elam’s fourth goal of the game. She finished with five.

Jordan Bentley, one of five Saints who scored three goals against New Hampshire, scored her third goal of the game against Pitt to stop the Panthers’ run early in the fourth quarter.

Siena’s Nicole McNeely, who assisted on two of Bentley’s goals, scored with 7:42 left in the game to cut it to 11-5.

The Panthers had a 25-10 advantage in shots on goal.

Pitt, which opened the season with a 9-8 overtime victory over Duquesne, improved to 2-0.
