Sports UAlbany’s Morgan Petty was named the America East softball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
A Milford, Del. native, Petty opened the season with two home runs and a league-high six RBIs in one weekend of play. The junior scored four runs with a .400 batting average to lead the Great Danes.
Going 2-for-3 from the plate against tournament host Winthrop, Petty hit a two-run home run to lead UAlbany to a 4-1 win last Friday. Petty added three RBIs against Robert Morris on Sunday.
Eugster Rookie of the Week
For the second time this season, RPI’s Avery Eugster has been chosen Liberty League Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.
In two league road games last week, Eugster averaged 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in helping the Engineers to victories over RIT and Hobart.
Previously honored on Jan. 3, he has played all 25 games, including two as a starter, and averages 5.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game
The Engineers (15-3 Liberty League, 21-4) are the top seed in the conference tournament and host the semifinals and final this weekend at East Campus Arena.

Lyons, Shannon honored
Coming off impressive individual efforts at the West Point Tune-Up, RPI’s Luke Lyons and Sean Shannon have garnered Liberty League awards in men’s track & field.
Lyons, a junior, earned Track Performer of the Week, while Shannon, a freshman, captured Rookie of the Week.
Lyons won the 400-meter dash in 50.52 to defeat 32 others, and anchored the winning 1,600 relay.
Shannon ran the leadoff leg on the 1,600 relay after having finished sixth overall and third among Division III athletes in the 800 (1:59.53).
Engineers take weekly awards
RPI freshman Aiden Drover-Mattinen was named Liberty League men’s tennis Singles Performer of the Week and also teamed up with Peter Lohrbach to earn Doubles Team of the Week.
In two dual matches on the road over the weekend, Drover-Mattinen won in straight sets twice at No. 1 singles to help the Engineers beat RIT 9-0 and Rochester 9-0.
In doubles, Drover-Mattinen and Lohrbach went 2-0 during those matches.
On the women’s side, junior Alex Mednikova was named Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week and teamed up with Lorna Flores Gonzalez to take Doubles Team of the Week.
In two dual matches on the road over the weekend, Mednikova was 2-0 while playing No. 1 singles in team victories over against RIT and Rochester.
In doubles, Mednikova and Flores Gonzalez (Sugar Land, TX / iUniversity Prep.) went 2-0 while playing No. 1. They swept their match against RIT 8-0 and then had an 8-4 win at Rochester.
