CLIFTON PARK – Shenendehowa hockey’s Nolan Sullivan not only helped his school advance in the playoffs Sunday, but his work on his skates – and then “his tush” helped him into the national spotlight and onto ESPN’s SportsCenter.

The national show not only aired footage of an “incredible” Sullivan goal Sunday, but they made it the show’s national Top Play.

“The @espn #1 play from last night wasn’t Steph or Lebron – it was our man Nolan Sullivan from @shenhockey scoring this goal !! Incredible stuff Nolan!!” Shen Athletics tweeted Monday morning.

The tweet included the video of the incredible goal – as it aired on SportsCenter.

“Nolan Sullivan, fallen on his backside, still manages to light the lamp!” the ESPN anchor narrates, “From his tush!”

ShenAthletics Tweet: The @espn #1 play from last night

Our Ken Schott’s description of that play from his game story:

“Sullivan, who assisted on those goals, took control in the third with an incredible first goal 31 seconds into the period. He was pulled down from behind by Austin Kardos. Despite being on the seat of his pants as he slid on the ice, Sullivan lifted the puck over goalie Jackson Bissell.”

“I saw the puck was on my stick,” Sullivan described after the game. “I saw a little opening below his glove, and I just tried getting it there and it went where I wanted it to and it went the way I wanted it.

“That was a big goal. Definitely a turning point for the game, and turning point for the team. We started coming together, and we worked as a team and did well.”

The footage came from WTEN, with sports reporter Jared Phillips tweeting praise calling the play “absolute filth” and that it deserved SportsCenter Top10 treatment. WTEN sports anchor Griffin Haas then tweeted after the play made the top spot “We asked, and @SportsCenter listened.”

As for Shen’s time in the national spotlight, actually the school didn’t quite get there with its star forward.

That’s because the quality of the ESPN anchor’s call didn’t exactly match that of Sullivan’s play.

The anchor dubbed Shenendehowa “Shenandoah” not once, but twice.

“Shenandoah wins! 6-2. It’s your top play of the night!” the second miss went.

Shen Athletics, in its tweet noted the miss and issued a gentle correction.

“By the way it’s Shenendehowa not Shenandoah,” Shen Athletics wrote.
