Burnt Hills/Scotia’s Brown reaches All-American status in boys’ swimming

Burnt Hills/Scotia’s Sam Brown qualified for All-American status in placing first in the 100-yard backstroke Friday at the preliminaries of the state boys’ swimming and diving championships at Ithaca College.

Brown swam a time of 49.27 seconds in qualifying for the ‘A’ final on Saturday.

Brown also was part of Burnt HIlls-Scotia’s second-place 200 medley relay team with Liam Marshall, Keegan Stafford and Addison Pokines. It finished in 1:34.86, less than half a second behind Saint Anthony’s.

Albany Academy junior Brayden Henkel also earned All-American status by placing first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.97. Henkel also placed first in the 50 freestyle, in 20.90, which puts him in All-American consideration.

Gloversville/Mayfield’s Dane Dillenback placed third in the 100 freestyle, in 46.29, to reach the ‘A’ final. He finished eighth in the 50 free with a time of 21.39.
