SCHENECTADY – An organization offering up a reward for information leading to the person responsible for an abandoned, emaciated dog that later died has been increased, officials said Tuesday.
The New York State Humane Association previously offered a $1,000 reward. On Tuesday, the association, working with the Schenectady Police Department, announced it had doubled its offered reward to $2,000.
The money is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for starving and abandoning the dog early last month in Schenectady.
The dog, a gray pit bull-mix, was found emaciated along Creese Avenue in Schenectady Feb. 7 by a good Samaritan, who called police.

Also previously offering a reward in the case is H&K Towing in Schenectady. H&K last month put up $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible.
“Someone must know something to help the police solve this horrific case of animal cruelty,” the association said in a release Tuesday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Schenectady Police Department at 518-382-5200 ext. 5655.
“The individual or individuals responsible for the actions that led to the starvation and abandonment of this unfortunate animal must be brought to justice,” Tuesday’s release reads.
