LOUDONVILLE — Siena won’t have the services of Anthony Gaines for the MAAC men’s basketball tournament.

The Saints announced Tuesday that Gaines, a graduate student, suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee on the final play of Saturday’s regular-season finale at Canisius.

“This is unfortunate news, but will just be another obstacle that Anthony overcomes,” Saints head coach Carmen Maciariello said in a press release. “He’s a resilient young man who I was honored to coach. We have work to do in Atlantic City, and I know that this team will step up to the challenge.”

A native of Kingston, Gaines came to Siena following a four-year career in the Big Ten Conference at Northwestern University. He was named a Third Team All-MAAC selection Monday. Gaines was the only Siena player to both start and appear in all 28 games during the regular season, while averaging a team-high 33.5 minutes. He averaged 10.9 points and ranks sixth in the MAAC in rebounding (7.1). Gaines also dished out a team-high 61 assists, and posted three double-doubles.
