Great performances carry Siena men’s lacrosse to victory

Solid play in the middle quarters gave the Siena men’s lacrosse team its second win of the season on Friday, 13-10 over St. John’s at Hickey Field in Loudonville.

After a 3-3 first quarter, the Saints (2-5) outscored St. John’s 9-3 in the second and third quarters.

Siena also got great individual performances at both ends of the field. Offensively, senior midfielder Christian Watts led the way with a season-high five goals. Freshman attackman Pratt Reynolds added four goals and an assist, while graduate student attackman Jack Kiernan had two goals and a season-high four assists. The six points also are a team high. Defensively, senior Christopher Yanchoris tied his season high with 17 saves.

Siena went on a 3-0 run to start the second quarter, with the first two being man-up goals by Reynolds. Watts tallied the other one. Siena led 8-5 at halftime, having taken only 10 shots on goal.

Kiernan struck twice in the third quarter, with Reynolds and Watts also tallying for a 12-6 lead through the period. Watts made it 13-6 with his team-leading 19th goal of the game at 10:59 of the fourth before the Red Storm (1-5) put on a late rally.
