Slow first half costs Siena women’s lacrosse vs. Harvard

A slow start in the first half cost Siena, as it fell to Harvard 11-4 in a women’s lacrosse game in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Friday.

Harvard (3-1) scored five goals in the second quarter en route to a 7-0 halftime lead. The Saints managed just two shots on goal for the half. It was the first time the Saints had been shut out in a half this season. The Crimson’s leading scorer, Callie Hem, scored two of her three goals in the first half, with Maddie Barkate also notching two.

Siena (2-4) finally got on the scoreboard with the first of Mary Soures’ two goals at 12:09 of the third quarter. Sources struck again in the period, but Siena trailed 8-2 through three quarters.

Jordan Bentley scored her 12th goal of the season, tied for the most on the team, to make it 9-3 with 10:49 left. Laura Bonomo scored to make it 9-4 with 7:18 left, but the Saints couldn’t break through the Crimson’s defense for any more. They finished with just seven shots on goal.

Ally Mervine and Sabrina Krasner combined for five saves.
