SARATOGA SPRINGS – Two people were killed Thursday in a one car crash on the Northway at Saratoga Springs, state police said.

The crash happened at about 4:16 p.m. on Interstate 87 south between Exits 13 and 14.

Troopers Friday identified the two people killed as driver Paula M. Ashline, 50, of Hudson Falls, and her passenger Nicole M. Thaxton, 34, also of Hudson Falls. Both died at the scene.

The preliminary investigation determined Ashline lost control of her vehicle while in the southbound lane and exited the roadway. The vehicle entered the median, striking a tree and culvert before overturning, state police said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Friday, state police said.
