SCHENECTADY — A car crashed into a dialysis clinic at the Woodlawn Plaza early Wednesday afternoon.
Four patients were receiving treatment in the area when the car crashed through the Rotterdam-Schenectady Dialysis Center at 1594 State St. shortly before 1 p.m., according to Assistant Fire Chief Don Mareno. Two people were treated at the scene, though no one was transported to the hospital.
Mary Bell, the 71-year-old driver who drove into the clinic, said she was on her way to a bottle return center located in the shopping center when she mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.
Bell said she never made the mistake before, and was “shook up” but uninjured.
There were 17 patients receiving treatment at the time of the crash, according to the clinic’s manager, who declined to provide a name.
The manager said 15 more patients were scheduled to receive treatment Wednesday and the manager was trying to determine if the scheduled appointments could still take place, given the crash.
City code enforcement was on the scene, as were first responders from Schenectady police and fire departments.
Crash remains under investigation.
