Police: Guilderland man dies in Western Turnpike crash

GUILDERLAND – A Guilderland man has died of injuries suffered in a Tuesday head-on crash on Western Turnpike in Guilderland, police said

Police identified the man who died as Charles J. Renus Jr., 88, of Fuller Station Road.

The crash happened just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday on Route 20 near Fuller Station Road when a vehicle headed westbound crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a vehicle being driven by Renus, police said.

Guilderland Emergency Medical Services treated and transported both operators to Albany Medical Center, where Renus later died from his injuries, police said.

A release Thursday did not identify the other driver.

The investigation remained ongoing Thursday.

The Guilderland Center and Fort Hunter fire departments assisted at the scene.
