UConn holds on to beat UAlbany in women’s lacrosse

ALBANY – UAlbany got within two goals in the fourth quarter, but a 4-0 run gave UConn a 16-11 win over the Great Danes on Tuesday in a non-league women’s lacrosse game at John Fallon Field.

Kathryn Sancilio scored to close UConn’s lead to 12-10 with 8:57 left, but the 22nd-ranked Huskies scored four goals in a span of 3:15 to put the game away.

“We fought hard to come from behind, but didn’t convert fully on momentum opportunities,” UAlbany coach Katie Thomson said in a release.

UConn had a pair of six-goal scorers on the day, Sydney Watson and Kate Shaffer.

Courtney Rowe led UAlbany with four goals. Sarah Falk had two goals and two assists, while Bryar Hogg and Sancilio each added two goals. Aislinn Sweeney made her second start of the season in goal and finished with 14 saves.
