UAlbany women’s lacrosse opens AE play with 15-11 win over Binghamton

The UAlbany women’s lacrosse team outscored Binghamton 6-4 in the fourth quarter and opened the America East season with a 15-11 victory at John Fallon Field on Saturday.

Katie Pascale scored four goals and assisted on one, and Sarah Falk also scored four goals for the Great Danes, who improved to 3-5 overall.

UAlbany has never lost to Binghamton (0-1, 5-5) in 22 meetings since 2002.

Falk scored two of her goals in the fourth, the second of which put UAlbany ahead 14-9 with 6:17 left.

SIENA 21, IONA 20

A player who scores nine goals usually would get top billing, but that wasn’t the case at Siena’s Hickey Field.

Nicole McNeely scored with 3.2 seconds left to finish off a 4-0 game-ending run by Siena that catapulted the Saints past Iona to open the MAAC season for both teams.

In the course of piling up three goals and three assists in the game, McNeely also became Siena’s all-time career leader in goals and points.

Senior Mary Soures did the bulk of the scoring for the Saints (5-5 overall), with nine goals, and was a force during the final push, bringing Siena within 20-19 with 3:35 left and tying the game with 2:29 left.

Emily Stewart had six goals and an assist for Iona (7-2).

UALBANY 12, STONY BROOK 10

In the last meeting between the teams as America East rivals – Stony Brook is departing the conference to join the Colonial Athletic Association – UAlbany built an 8-2 lead in the third quarter, but had to hold off a Stony Brook rally.

The Seawolves cut it to  10-8 with 7:15 left to play, but the Great Danes answered with goals by Camden Hay and Graydon Hogg, who finished with five goals and an assist.

“That was the rivalry right there,” UAlbany head coach Scott Marr said. “We really played like a team today. It was a much-needed win. I talked about it being a must-win, and I’m really happy about the response that we got.”

MARIST 11, SIENA 10

Marist scored two goals in the final 1:38 to edge Siena and drop the Saints to 0-2 in the MAAC and 2-7 overall.

Tyler Menniti had given Siena a 10-9 lead with 9:10 left, but the Saints couldn;t quite hang on, as Jojo Pirreca scored with 32 seconds left to give the Red Foxes the victory.

Jack Kiernan scored three goals for the Saints, and goalie Chris Yanchoris made 16 saves.
