High schools: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys’ lacrosse win over Bethlehem; Mohonasen beats Schoharie in tennis


Kevin Carney’s eight goals and two assists led Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in its 17-6 season-opening Suburban Council boys’ lacrosse win over Bethlehem on Wednesday.

Shane McClernan added four goals and four assists and Rocco Mareno had five assists. Dan Johnson and Dan Jones had two goals each for Bethlehem.

Kyle Griskowitz scored five goals and an assist as Saratoga Springs dropped Queensbury 13-5 in non-league action. Jake Badar and Huck Patton each added two goals. The Blue Streaks led 7-3 at halftime.

MacKenzie Dixson tallied five goals and had two assists in Greenwich’s 8-5 Foothills Council girls’ lacrosse win over Johnstown. Maeve Kelleher had two goals and two assists for the Witches. Reegan Wilcox scored three goals, and Caroline Krempa added two for Johnstown. Cola Wendolski had 13 saves for Johnstown.  


Saratoga Central Catholic scored seven runs in the sixth inning on its way to a 14-0 non-league baseball win over Argyle. Pierce Byrne went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles for the Saints. Aidan Crowther started on the mound for Saratoga Catholic, striking out four in two innings. Tyler Weygand closed out the contest with five strikeouts in his two innings of work.

Chatham stole 11 bases in a 5-3 non-league win over Saugerties, led by Noah Hutchinson with three stolen bags. The Panthers used seven pitchers in the win, with Matt Radley picking up the save.

Coxsackie-Athens’ Berno Carey hit a bases loaded walk-off double to defeat Johnstown 4-3 in non-league action. The Sir Bills’ Carter Cheney had two doubles, and Mick Winton also had two hits. Zack Tallon struck out four batters in his three innings of work.

Bella Mahar delivered a first-pitch triple in the bottom of the seventh inning to deliver the game-winning hit as Averill Park dropped Saugerties 8-7 in a non-league softball game. Saugerties rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning before Mahar’s hit. The Warriors’ Abbey Nagel went 3 for 4, including a double and home run.

Mohonasen’s Josiah Spivey, Noah Spivey, Hason Serville, Mohamed Shahabuddeen and Vincenzo DiCastanzo were each singles winners in the Mighty Warriors’ 6-1 Colonial Council win over Schoharie. Dan Karish and Tariq Ali were doubles winners for Mohonasen, with Zachary Zinzow and Joshua Guasp the doubles winners for Schoharie.

Scotia-Glenville’s Shane McKone, Aiden Snyder and Remy Maynard were all singles winners against Mekeel Christian Academy leading to a 5-2 non-league win. Franky McCleneghen and Celeb Jahnel were singles winners for the Lions. The Tartan doubles squads of Sean Fluman/Sam Feinberg along with Owen Burke/Brett Colucciello were also winners.
