GUILDERLAND – A Rotterdam man was among two people killed in a Wednesday morning Thruway crash in Guilderland involving a tractor-trailer and five vehicles, state police said.
The name of the other person killed was not yet released by Wednesday evening, pending notice to next of kin, state police said.
State police identified the Rotterdam man killed as Brian M. Harper, 33. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. on the Thruway east between Exits 24 and 25, state police said.
State police determined an Amazon Prime semi driven by Larousse Desrosiers, 53, of Boston, was unable to avoid traffic when it encountered cars that had slowed due to congestion, state police said.
The semi then struck the five other vehicles, state police said.

The driver of the Volkswagon was pronounced dead at the scene. That driver is the one yet to be publicly identified.
Derosiers was not hurt. He was evaluated by a drug recognition expert and state police do not believe impairment was a contributing factor.
Those who were injured were identified as:
- Samantha Bonanno, 35, of Amsterdam. She was taken to Ellis Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
- Amanda J. Clark, 34, of Schenectady. She was taken to St. Peter’s Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
- James G. Fox, 50, of Virginia Beach, VA. He was taken to Albany Medical Center for injuries described as serious. He was listed in critical condition Wednesday evening, state police said.
- Anthony W. Squillo, 33, of Greenville, a passenger in Fox’s vehicle. He was also taken to Albany Medical Center. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The investigation remained ongoing Wednesday evening.
State police were asking for any witnesses to contact Investigator Matthew Spickler at 518-724-7565.
The section of the Thruway where the crash happened was shut for much of the day, sending traffic elsewhere. The section has since reopened.
