NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team came back from a 9-4 deficit to take a one-goal lead into the fourth quarter, but No. 10-ranked Yale scored four straight to regain control and went on to defeat the Great Danes 17-13 in a non-conference game at Reese Stadium.
Corey Yunker scored five goals for UAlbany (5-8), including two straight to get the Great Danes within 11-10, then Thomas Decker and Jack Pucci closed out the third quarter with goals to put UAlbany up 12-11.
Matt Brandau, who finished with four goals and three assists, scored back-to-back in the first 2:05 of the fourth quarter to give Yale a 13-12 lead.
The Bulldogs outscored the Great Danes 6-1 in the fourth.
“I’m proud of our effort today,” UAlbany head coach Scott Marr said. “Unfortunately, we came up short, but we were certainly right there. We continue to make strides forward against good teams. We just need to find a way to finish. But with effort like today’s, we will get over the hump when it counts.”
Pucci finished with two goals and two assists for UAlbany.
