SCHENECTADY – A city man attempted to set an apartment building on fire recently, authorities said.
Namere K. Thompson, 30, of Schenectady, was arrested April 15 and charged with second-degree attempted arson, records show.
Thompson is accused of attempting to set fire to his apartment building that afternoon by turning on his gas oven cooktop, placing items on top of the stove and starting a fire, according to police allegations filed in court.
Thompson is then accused of barricading the entrance door to prevent the fire department from entering the apartment, according to the allegations.
Thompson was also aware that other residents were in the building at the time he set the fire, according to the allegations.
Thompson was arraigned and ordered held. He remained in custody Friday without bail.
