The MAAC announced Monday that Mount St. Mary’s University will join the league starting with the 2022-23 academic year.
With the departure of Monmouth from the conference that includes Siena’s teams, the addition of Mount St. Mary’s will keep the MAAC at 11 schools as full members. For basketball, the conference’s flagship sport, the league is expected to continue with a 20-game schedule with each of the schools playing each other twice.
The MAAC Council of Presidents unanimously voted to accept Mount St. Mary’s — which is based in Emmitsburg, Maryland — on April 22. Besides Siena and Mount St. Mary’s, full MAAC members for 2022-23 will include Canisius, Fairfield, Iona, Manhattan, Marist, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Rider and Saint Peter’s.
Mount St. Mary’s will be the league’s only school outside of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
