CLIFTON PARK–The Clifton Park Town Board allocated $200,000 of federal COVID-19 relief money to assist 41 nonprofits hit hard by the pandemic.
The funding came to the town as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. This allotment is part of the town’s roughly $4 million in ARPA money, according to Town Supervisor Phil Barrett.
Barrett said the bulk of the relief money will be spent on infrastructure–including more than $1 million allocated so far–but supporting nonprofits is important.
“Their normal operations and fundraising efforts have been hampered by the pandemic. They’ve had to curtail services in many respects,” Barrett said. “Certainly no one grant is going to be the difference maker, but if we can be part of the solution and support the nonprofits in our own way then we certainly want to be part of that.”
The town will also be offering grant applications for nonprofits through the Clifton Park Community Action Fund later this year, which is funded through the donation of bottles and cans at the Transfer Station. More than $40,000 has been donated to dozens of nonprofits over the last three years, according to the town.
Nonprofit award amounts from the ARPA funding ranged from $500 to $7,000. The total request for funding was $344,000, according to the town.
