High schools: Booth’s clutch hit lifts Niskayuna baseball

Sam Booth went 3 for 4 with a double and a three-run triple in the seventh inning Friday to help Niskayuna top Troy 9-6 in Suburban Council baseball. 

Dan Quinn added two hits in the win, which saw Niskayuna trail 6-5 heading into the seventh inning. 

Jacob Pirrone-Salisbury struck out nine, and Tanner Wood pitched the final 1 2-3 innings to earn the victory.

Colin Maloney struck out six batters in a complete-game win for Shenendehowa, which defeated Saratoga Springs 7-0. Nino Salati had a single and three RBIs and Austin Caldwell had a double and two RBIs. Shenendehowa scored five runs in the fifth inning.

Sam Falace struck out nine batters in seven innings and allowed an unearned run in Colonie’s 2-1 win against Shaker. Tyler Figueroa had a single, double and two RBIs.

Columbia won 6-3 against Bethlehem. Kyle Blake had a hit and two RBIs in the win, while Korin Laurilla had two hits and scored a run. Mike Waldenmaier had two hits for Bethlehem, which received a hit and two RBIs from Matteo Cubello.

Alex Yash had three hits and three RBIs to power Averill Park to a 7-1 win over Schenectady. Jacob Kellar added two hits and two RBIs. Damon Royal drove in the Patriots’ run.

Broadalbin-Perth earned a 10-4 win against Amsterdam in Foothills Council action. Amsterdam scored three first-inning runs, then Broadalbin-Perth scored the next 10. For the Patriots, Sean Helferich had a home run, a single and two RBIs, while Bennett Armstrong and Nicolino Bianco each had three RBIs. Bianco had two hits, as did teammate Luke Tambasco. Hayden Benton earned the win with seven strikeouts in seven innings. For Amsterdam, Spencer Cotugno had two hits and two RBIs. Ryan Reagan contributed two hits and Brady Foss had two RBIs, plus a hit.

South Glens Falls won 10-7 against Johnstown. Dan Cohen had a home run and a single in the win, while Johnstown’s Jared Stewart had two singles and two RBIs.

Adrian Caron struck out eight in earning the complete-game win, as Queensbury beat Schuylerville 4-0. He also doubled and drove in a run. 

Alex Payne had two hits and four RBIs in helping Gloversville to a 9-4 win over Scotia-Glenville. Caelan Porter went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs. Dane Dillenback struck out eight to earn the pitching win. Micah Forgette and Andrew Wilson each went 2 for 3 with a run to lead the Tartans. Wilson also had an RBI. Derek Robinson added two hits and an RBI.

Canajoharie won 14-3 against Duanesburg in Western Athletic Conference action. In the five-inning game, Richie Tamsett didn’t allow an earned run in recording the win, while Zack Suits, Jack Montanye and Cody Hyney each had two hits and an RBI, and Riley Montanye had a hit and two RBIs. Suits scored a game-high three runs.

Galway defeated Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons 23-2. Ryan Pudney had five hits, four RBIs and four runs scored, while Ben Tompkins had two hits, three runs scored and six RBIs. Peter Paniccia had a hit and both RBIs for ND-BG.

Fort Plain scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly and throwing error to break a 1-1 tie in topping Schoharie 3-1. Austin VanGroder struck out 16 and allowed just four hits in the complete-game win. Lawrence Zuefle had two singles to lead Schoharie.

Middleburgh scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh in earning a walk-off 7-6 win over Mayfield. Ben Cresto went 2 for 3 with a double for the walk-off. Kevin Fuller had three RBIs for the winners. John Bruno went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Zach Byrns went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for Mayfield.

Dylan Barnes struck out 10 over five innings to help lead OESJ to a 13-2 win over Northville. Hunter Smith went 3 for 3 with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Mason Snell went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double and three RBIs. Landon Frasier led Northville with two hits.

Zachary Hartz had two hits and two RBIs to help lead Mechanicville to a 4-0 shutout of Waterford-Halfmoon in Wasaren League action. Andrew Kraszewski drove in the other two for Mechanicville. Harrison Chapin and Connor Kennedy each had a pair of hits for Waterford-Halfmoon.

Every run was scored in the third inning of Hoosick Falls’ 8-2 victory against Saratoga Catholic. Alex Busbee had two hits and two RBIs in the win, Andrew Sparks had three hits and an RBI, and Connor Jones had a hit, RBI and pitched a complete game. Kihl Kelly had three hits and an RBI to lead Saratoga Catholic.

Stillwater won 7-6 against Hoosic Valley. Reese Hotaling had three hits, two RBI and a run scored, and Jaxon Mueller had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored in the win. For Hoosic Valley, Thomas Rice had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. 

Hunter Clayton drove in three runs to lead Tamarac to a 15-5 victory over Greenwich. Liam Ring and Zach Rice combined for 10 strikeouts. Parker Jamieson and Jesse Kuzmich had two hits each for Greenwich.

In the first game of a Colonial Council doubleheader, Schalmont secured a 9-8 walk-off win when Jason Natalie drove in the winning run. Natalie’s RBI was the third in the inning for Schalmont, which received a two-RBI hit from Joe Baker to tie the game. Jerek Hobb had three hits and two RBIs in the victory, while Tyree Parker and Christian Tortorici each had two hits and an RBI. In the second game, Schalmont won 16-2. Hobb struck out 14 batters and allowed no earned run in the five-inning game. Hobb had three hits and scored five runs, Andrew Van Dyk had a hit and three RBIs, Parker had a hit and two RBIs, and Andrew Schraa produced two hits and four RBIs. Also for Schalmont, Dereck Perez had a hit and two RBIs, Natalie added two hits and an RBI, and Sean Howlan contributed two hits and two runs scored.

La Salle topped Ichabod Crane 11-4. Eddie Girtler struck out 14 batters in the complete-game run and allowed two earned runs. Girtler also had two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. La Salle’s Eddie Yamin had two doubles, a single, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Zowen Collins went 3 for 4 with three RBIs to help lead Cobleskill-Richmondville to an 8-2 win over Lansingburgh. Aaron Henry went 2 for 4 with three RBis for the Bulldogs.

Mohonasen defeated Cooperstown 10-6 in a non-league game. AJ Crux struck out six batters in four scoreless relief innings in the victory and had an RBI triple. Also for Mohonasen, which scored in every inning but the second, Kam Canavally had two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs, Jimmy Wilson had two RBIs, and Vince Carollo scored two runs and had two hits.

SHENENDEHOWA TOPS SARATOGA SPRINGS

Shenendehowa defeated Saratoga Springs 6-3 in Suburban Council softball. Becca Zawistowski had two hits and pitched five scoreless innings in the victory, Kelly Powell had a hit and two RBIs, Hannah Smith contributed three hits, two runs scored and an RBI, and Kelsey Higgins had two hits and a run scored. For Saratoga Springs, Karley Austin and Jackie Cutting each had two hits, and Cutting added an RBI.

Anna Cleary hit a home run and struck out eight batters without allowing an earned run in seven innings to lead Bethlehem to a 6-4 win against Columbia. Cleary also had a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Elly Lyda had two hits and a run scored in the win, and Charlotte Higgs produced one hit and two RBIs.

Lauren Jesmain and Taylor Russell each had two hits for the Scotties, as Ballston Spa topped Albany 6-0. Madelyn Perrone drove in two runs. Hadley Donnelly struck out nine in the win. Sydney Speanburg doubled for Albany.

Troy scored all its runs within the first three innings on its way to a 9-2 win against Niskayuna. Olivia DeCitise struck out a dozen batters in six scoreless innings to claim the win, and had a double and two RBIs. For Troy, Kierra Laranjo and Katie Pryor each had a single, double and two RBIs. Niskayuna’s Anna Joyce had an RBI and single.

Averill Park won 13-0 against Schenectady. Abby Colwill pitched the shutout, and had two hits and two runs scored, while teammate Mia Lucey contributed two RBIs.

Schalmont earned a 17-5 Colonial Council win against Voorheesville. Alana Judeikis had two hits, two runs scored, three RBIs and earned the pitching win. Also for Schalmont, Mikayla Townsend had three RBIs, Talia Hartman had four hits, scored four runs and had two RBIs, Annalise Tyler had four hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs, and Kayley Madia had three hits.

Skyler Wessels struck out 10 and didn’t allow a hit in five innings during Catholic Central’s 29-0 win over Lansingburgh. 

Kari Graziano struck out 12, as Ichabod Crane shut out Holy Names 42-0. Makayla Walsh had four hits and seven RBIs. Paige Eitlman added four RBIs.

Sara Toukatly had three hits and struck out seven batters in leading Mohonasen to a 5-4 win against Albany Academy. Ava Quenneville and Angelina Galusha each had three hits and two RBI in the win. For Albany Academy, Emma Hart had a double and two singles.

Bella Stefanovich had a home run and three RBIs, and Dani Stratton had three hits and four RBIs in Hoosick Falls’ 9-4 win against Waterford-Halfmoon. In  the Wasaren League game, Millie Carson had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. 

Canajoharie defeated Duanesburg 4-3 in Western Athletic Conference action. Kirsten Hyney struck out a dozen batters in the win, while Duanesburg’s Allison Mienaltowski struck out 10. Julia Hojohn had a hit and two RBIs to lead Canajoharie’s offense. Victoria Silva contributed two hits, two RBIs and a run scored for Duanesburg.

Alexis Broderick compiled three doubles, three RBIs and two runs in Mayfield’s 11-3 win over Middleburgh. Kelsey Meca added two singles and two RBis, while Heather Ginter had two singles and an RBI. Emily Senese and Cloey Dopp also had two hits apiece and combined for three runs.

Alexis Rogers struck out six batters and allowed four hits in recording a shutout to lead Queensbury to a 3-0 win against Glens Falls. Cassidy Ray had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Dyllan Ray added a hit and an RBI.Jaelyn Graham had two doubles for Glens Falls.

In a 2-1 win against Schuylerville, Keeley Kristel struck out six batters and allowed an unearned run in a complete-game win. Shannon Cook and Arianna Stark each had a hit and an RBI in the victory. For Schuylerville, Riley Keefer, Gracelyn Kilburn and Taylor Dennis all had two hits.

Anna Winter had two hits, three RBIs and picked up the pitching win as Hudson Falls downed South Glens Falls 7-2.

NICHOLS LEADS HOLY NAMES

Anna Nichols had six goals and one assist to lead Holy Names to a 15-5 win over Schenectady/Mohonasen. Suzie Smith added two goals and four assists in the win. Catelyn Hodge had two goals for Schenectady/Mohonasen.

NISKAYUNA WINS

Niskayuna collected a 9-0 Suburban Council win against Troy. Syed Saeed won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Vivek Lanka, Masum Shah, Joseph Ltaif and David Henson won singles matches without losing a game.

Avi Bagchi won a tight singles match, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6) as part of Shaker’s 8-1 victory over Colonie. Justin Womeldorph won for the Garnet Raiders.

Guilderland got a three-set first doubles win from Pretesh Prakash and John Giordano in its 8-1 win over Averill Park.

Bethlehem won 9-0 against Columbia. Ashrith Rao was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles. Aadi Ojha and Ian Jin each earned 6-0, 6-0 singles wins.

Shenendehowa scored a 6-3 win against Saratoga Springs. Vincent Devito won at No. 1 singles for the Blue Streaks. For Shenendehowa, Advaith Ramani, Evan Hickey and Tony Liu earned singles wins.

Grace Early won 9-7 to help Schuylerville take a 6-1 Foothills Council win over South Glens Falls. Cooper Brennan won the first singles match for South Glens Falls.

Queensbury won 6-1 against Glens Falls. Skyler Allen won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
