An off-duty officer, however, later reported seeing a moose on Aqueduct Road in Niskayuna at around 9 a.m., Irwin said.
Calls started coming in to Niskayuna Police at around 8:30 a.m., Police Chief Jordan Kochan said.
The calls came in in the Hillside and Providence avenue areas, he said. Town officers also couldn’t locate the animal.
The department then contacted the state Department of Environmental Conservation to make them aware, the chief said.
In response, the department sent out an email to residents reminding them of general safety measures, including not to approach the moose and to secure trash cans.
“We’ve just started asking folks to pleas not approach or feed it and to contact us if there are any further sightings,” Kochan said.
