Briefs: UAlbany women’s lacrosse’s Pascale earns first-team All-Northeast Region honors

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — UAlbany sophomore women’s lacrosse player Katie Pascale has been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Northeast Region first team, the organization announced Thursday.

Pascale, an IWLCA second-team All-Region pick in 2020, is the first UAlbany player to earn a spot on the first team since Sarah Martin in 2017.

Pascale, a midfielder from Baldwinsville, led UAlbany with 39 assists and 82 total points this season, and was second on the Great Danes with 43 goals. She led the America East in assists and points, and ranked third in draw controls. Nationally, she ranked 10th in total assists and 12th in assists per game

Also a first-team America East All-Conference selection, Pascale ranks fifth in single-season points, even in single-season assists and eighth with 68 career assists in UAlbany program history.

SUNY COBLESKILL PLAYERS EARN HONORS

WATERVILLE, Maine — The SUNY Cobleskill baseball program made a clean sweep of the North Atlantic Conference’s 2022 player awards, with Eddy Garcia earning Player of the Year honors, Wyatt Palmer as Pitcher of the Year and Logan Hutter as the league’s Rookie of the Year.

Garcia, a senior shortstop, hit .367 with five home runs and a league-best 45 runs batted in for the Fighting Tigers this season. In addition to RBIs, he also led the conference in games played, plate appearances, at-bats, hits, runs scored, doubles, triples, total bases and defensive assists.

Palmer, a junior righthander, was SUNY Cobleskill’s ace on the mound, posting a 7-2 record to lead the NAC in wins while working to a 2.86 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 18 walks in 50 1-3 innings.

Hutter, a catcher/designated hitter, put up a .355 batting average and a .420 on-base percentage to go along with five home runs, 13 doubles, 32 RBIs, 29 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.

Hutter, Palmer and Garcia, along with senior outfielder Samuel Gutierrez, were all named to the NAC All-Western Division Team.

RUSSELL SAGE PLAYERS EARN 3 SPOTS ON ALL-EMPIRE 8 TEAMS

ALBANY — Three Russell Sage men’s lacrosse players — Hunter Brunelle, Joe Johnson and Bailey Martin — earned spots on the 2022 All-Empire 8 Conference teams, as voted by the league’s head coaches.

Brunelle, a grad student attackman, earned a spot on the second team. He set a single-season program record with 58 points on 32 goals and 26 assists.

Martin, a senior attackman, scored a team-high 36 goals and added 16 assists. He closed the spring as the Gators’ career scoring leader with 58 goals.

Johnson, a freshman defender, scooped up 27 groundballs and caused 13 turnovers in his first season with the Gators.
