Xander Canfield hit two doubles, going 3 for 5 for Schenectady and scored two runs as the Patriots defeated Albany 9-4 in Suburban Council baseball action Friday.
Patrick Kain went 2 for 3 with doubles and an RBI. Alex Peters earned the win giving up two earned runs, walking two and striking out four.
Albany Academy starting pitcher Aviv Drucker struck out 10 in a 15-3 four inning Colonial Council win against Cohoes. Geno Savoca went 2 for 2 with a double and triple, walked twice, scored two runs and hit two RBIs.
Kole Wayman had two hits and five RBIs to lead Cobleskill-Richmondville past Voorheesville 9-2.
Duanesburg pitcher Shane Wetherington struck out 11 for a complete game 10-5 Western Athletic Conference win over Middleburgh. At the plate, Wetherington went 3 for 4 with a double and home run. He scored twice and had two RBIs. Ethan Myers went 2 for 4 with a double and home run of his own for Duanesburg. Middleburgh’s Josh Reinhart went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.
Fort Plain’s Paul Grassel went 1 for 2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Griffin MaGinnis went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI. On the mound MaGinnis struck out six in five innings of work.
Ryan Pudney had with four doubles, and Eric Zelezniak collected three doubles in Galway’s 19-4 win against OESJ. Rylan Barnes went 2 for 4, and Owen Feagles went 2 for 3 for OESJ.
Michael Wormuth led Averill Park baseball to a 14-5 non-league win over Broadalbin-Perth. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. Michael Magliocca went 2 for 4 with a home run for the Patriots. Colin Cotter went 2 for 3 with a run scored and RBI.
Gavin Bodah struck out 10 to lead Waterford-Halfmoon to a 10-0 win over Rensselaer. Harrison Chapin went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Blake Cribbs went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
QUEENSBURY SOFTBALL DROPS JOHNSTOWN
Queensbury exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning on its way to a 24-4 five-inning victory over Johnstown in Foothills Council softball.
Cassidy Ray went 4 for 5 and hit a triple and home run leading to three RBIs and four runs scored. Bella Bermas led the Sir Bills offense with a double and home run as part of her 2 for 3 afternoon with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Emma Crahan hit a two-run home run and Kamryn Walton hit three doubles and scored five runs in Fodna-Fultonville’s 20-7 Western Athletic Conference win over Mayfield. Mayfield was led by Alexis Broderick who hit a home run and a double for three RBIs.
Sydney Speanburg struck out eight Averill Park batters in Albany’s 5-2 Suburban Council win. At the plate, she went 1 for 3 an RBI. Molly Eaton went 1 for 3 with a double and RBI for Averill Park.
Olivia DeCitise struck out 12 in Troy’s 4-3 win against Guilderland. Emma Thompson went 3 for 3 and scored two runs.
Marissa Dodge went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases as Cohoes defeated Catholic Central 12-2 in Colonial Council action. Anna Fowler went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Hannah Burgess went 2 for 3 with three runs scored.
Paige Kemmer and Kat Rohloff hit home runs in Voorheesville’s 11-2 win over Cobleskill-Richmondville. Ava Webber hit a double for Cobleskill-Richmondville.
PERRY SCORES SEVEN GOALS IN SCHENECTADY’S WIN
Rorick Perry scored seven goals and had an assist as Schenectady/Mohonasen doubled-up Catholic Central 12-6 in non-league boys’ lacrosse action. Ryan Della Rocco scored two goals and had an assist, Azai Baker added two goals.
AMSTERDAM/BROADALBIN-PERTH LOSES TO ALBANY
Cassidy Foley scored four goals and had two assists and Allison O’Connor scored four goals in Albany’s 17-3 non-league girls’ lacrosse win over Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth. Sydney Hoefs, Annie Fedullo and Payton Hoefs scored for Amsterdam.
BOYS’ TENNIS SEEDS ANNOUNCED
Bethlehem, Queensbury, Ichabod Crane and Maple Hill were announced as No. 1 seeds in the Section II boys’ tennis team tournament. Bethlehem will host No. 8 Albany Saturday. Queensbury will host the winner of No. 5 Troy at No. 4 Averill Park Monday. Ichabod Crane travels to face No. 8 Cobleskill-Richmondville Saturday. Maple Hill hosts the No. 8 Johnsburg/Minerva winner. The championships are scheduled for Tuesday with Class AA and A played at Central Park. No site has been announced for the Class B and C/D championships.
Masami Surisawa, EJ Cabahug, Kevin McLeod, Joshua Marx and John Lamont won singles matches in Albany’s 8-1 Class AA first round sectional match against Mohonasen/Schalmont. Brian Schneider earned a three-set win at No. 6 singles for Mohonasen/Schalmont.
Niskayuna’s Avaneesh Benki, Zain Choudy, Jeremy Burstyn, Syed Saeed, Vivek Lanka and Masum Shah each earned straight set wins over Columbia in the Silver Warriors 9-0 Class AA first round win. Mihir Kulkami and Joseph Ltaif along with David Henson and Patrich Connelly and the duo of Jacob Ciesinski and Alex Rust were doubles winners for Niskayuna.
