Tri-City tops Lake Erie in morning Frontier League game

TROY — Denis Phipps homered twice, and the Tri-City ValleyCats beat Lake Erie 10-6 in a Frontier League morning game Thursday at Joe Bruno Stadium.

Phipps went 4 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs. His first homer was a solo shot in the fifth to give Tri-City a 5-3 lead. His second one also was a solo blast over the left-center field wall to make it a 10-3 lead.

Jonah Girand also hit a solo home run for Tri-City (4-2). He, along with Brantley Bell and Jesus Lujano each went 2 for 4. Juan Silverio doubled, had a sacrifice fly, scored a run and stole a base.

On the mound, the ValleyCats used three pitchers, with Adam Hofacket striking out four in 2 2-3 innings of relief.

Tri-City hosts Windy City at 7 p.m. Friday.
