Lambright homer propels Shenendehowa softball past Shaker in quarterfinals

Jada Lambright connected for a three-run home run in the first inning to put top-seeded Shenendehowa on the path to advancing into next week’s Section II Class AA softball semifinals.

Shenendehowa earned a 4-1 win Friday in the quarterfinals against Shaker. Becca Zawistowski, who pitched a complete game for Shenendehowa, slugged a sixth-inning home run to complete the Plainsmen’s scoring. Zawistowski struck out six batters and allowed five hits.

For Shaker, Brianna Hardwick hit a home run in the third inning.

No. 1 Shenendehowa will play in Tuesday’s semifinals against No. 4 Ballston Spa at Luther Forest Fields.

Livia Wiltsie pitched a one-hit, 11 strikeout shutout as Ballston Spa cruised past No. 5 Colonie. She went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Allison Piscitelli went 2 for 2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Madelyn Perrone went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Calleigh Sisk went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.

Columbia won 12-2 against Guilderland. Olivia Urquhart struck out five batters in the complete-game win. Also for Columbia, Gianna Lenartz had four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored, Miranda King added three hits and two RBIs, Teagan Kreshik produced two hits and three runs scored, and Allie Silliman had two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. For sixth-seeded Guilderland, Meghan Paul and Lauren Lamme each had a hit, and Paul scored a run. No. 3 Columbia will next play No. 7 Saratoga Springs in the Class AA semifinals. 

Saratoga Springs scored twice in the first two innings and took advantage of three Bethlehem errors to earn the upset 4-1 win on the road. Jackie Cutting scattered three hits and struck out seven for the seventh-seeded Blue Streaks. Karley Austin went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Sarah Decker went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Saratoga Springs. Charlotte Higgs went 1 for 3 and scored the lone run for Bethlehem.

TROY SHUTS OUT MOHONASEN 

In the Section II Class A quarterfinals, Troy defeated Mohonasen 7-0. Olivia DeCitise allowed a single hit and struck out 13 batters in the complete-game win, and added four hits and three RBIs. Also for Troy, Olivia Ashline had two hits and scored two runs, and Emma Thompson had two hits and scored a run. For Mohonasen, Ava Quenneville had a single. In next week’s semifinals, No. 2 Troy will play No. 3 Averill Park. 

Averill Park exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning to dismiss No. 6 Hudson Falls, 17=3 in five innings. Abbey Nagel went 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. Maisie Dawson went 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIs with a double and a home run. Bella Mancino went 2 for 4 a home run and a double, scoring twice with two RBIs. 

No. 4 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake piled up four runs in the fifth inning and dropped No. 5 South Glens Falls 4-1 in the Class A quarterfinal. Katie Rhodes allowed a run on four hits. She struck out seven without issuing a walk in the win. Cianna Benamati went 2 for 3 and hit a grand slam. She scored a run and drove in four. Dianna DeBonis went 1 for 3 with a double for the Spartans. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake will face No. 1 Queensbury at Schalmont Tuesday in the Class A semifinals. 

Alexis Rogers delivered for No. 1 Queensbury, striking out 11 in the Spartan’s 6-0 win against No. 8 Scotia-Glenville. She scattered four hits and walked one. Sedona Jones went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored three runs. Keeley Kristel led Scotia-Glenville with her 2 for 3 afternoon. Grace Letterman went 1 for 3 with a double.

SCHALMONT UPSETS TAMARAC  

In the Section II Class B quarterfinals No. 6 Schalmont upset No. 3 Tamarac 8-1 to advance to Tuesday’s semifinals. A six-run second inning gave pitcher Marissa Phillips all she needed, giving up four hits and striking out five. Annalise Tyler went 4 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Alana Judeikis went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Schalmont will face No. 2 Glens Falls at Luther Forest Fields in the semifinals Tuesday.

Kari Graziano threw a one-hit shutout, striking out nine as No. 1 Ichabod Crane dropped No. 9 Catholic Central 15-0 in five innings. Abby Milazzo went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Clare Knapp went 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Makayla Walsh went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Ichabod Crane will face No. 5 Cohoes.

LAKE GEORGE WALKS OFF AGAINST B-K-W 

In the Section II Class C quarterfinals Lake George’s Shannon Starratt singled with a 1-1 count driving in two runs for a 3-1 walk-off win over No. 5 Berne-Knox-Westerlo. No. 4 Lake George. Shen went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Starratt earned the win, giving up one run on one hit for Lake George. She walked three batters and struck out seven. Madison Stark went 1 for 4 with a triple, with a run and an RBI. Lake George will face No. 1 Chatham Tuesday at Moreau Rec Park.

Emily Mesiac scattered three hits and struck out 10 in Chatham’s 2-0 win over Hoosick Falls. At the plate Mesiac went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Emily Madsen led Chatham with her 2 for 3 day with a double and run scored.
