
AVERILL PARK – Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s girls’ track and field team won seven events, and Mohonasen’s Zionna Perez-Tucker was a triple-winner at the Section II Group 2 track and field championships on Wednesday.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake totaled 180 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Averill Park with 120. The boys’ team scores were unavailable at press time. The Spartans won the 400-meter and 1,600-meter relays. Jenna Vaughan was a member of the winning relay teams and also captured the 400 hurdles (1:08.11).
Perez-Tucker won the 100 (11.98), 200 (24.54) and 400 (56.42). Her 200 time was the fastest in the state this year. Teammate Melissa Quinlivan won the discus (94-0) and shot put (32-3.50). Averill Park’s Marisa Mazzacco won the long jump (17-6.75) and triple jump (36-0.25).
On the boys’ side, La Salle Institute’s Gitch Hayes won the 1,600 (4:20.74), 800 (1:53.80), and was a member of the winning 1,600 relay team, which crossed the line in 3:29.53.
Mohonasen’s Isaiah Gershon won the 100 (10.88) and 200 (22.41). Amsterdam’s Garrett McHeard was a double-winner in the discus (145-5) and the shot put (50-7).
