High schools: Schuylerville wins Class B title with 1-0 win over Ichabod Crane


HIGH SCHOOLS Schuylerville scored a run in the top of the fourth inning, and that was enough pull out a 1-0 win over Ichabod Crane in the Section II Class B baseball championship game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Wednesday.

Luke Sherman hit a two-out triple and scored on a single by Anthony Luzadis for the only run of the game.

The Black Horses survived a one-out bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh when pitcher Ryan Dow got a strikeout and a groundout to end the game. Dow gave up just three hits, including a double by Satchel Baumgartner in the second inning, and struck out five.

Ichabod Crane pitcher Brady Holzhauer struck out six and held Schuylerville to three hits.

In Game 1 of the Class AA best-of-three championship series, Saratoga Springs scored four runs in the top of the 12th inning to defeat Shaker 7-4. Owen Redick and Michael Mack each hit a double for the Blue Streaks, and Charles DeRizzo had four singles and two RBIs, and scored two runs. Redick’s double came in the 12th and drove in a run to make it 4-3, and DeRizzo followed with an RBI single for a 5-3 lead. Game 2 is Friday.


Shenendehowa outscored Shaker 8-5 in the second half to win 13-9 in the Section II Class A girls’ lacrosse semifinals.

Paige Adams scored four goals for Shen, Kelly Augeri had three goals an two assists and Lauren Shanahan scored three goals.

Lauren O’Hagen led the Blue Bison with three goals and an assist, and Jenna Pollicino had a goal and three assists.
