
STILLWATER – Kaurice Bell of Middleburgh won four events at the Section II Group 5 track and field championships at Stillwater High School on Thursday.
Bell swept the sprints, winning the 100 (11.20) and 200 (22.94) and also won the long jump (20-4) and triple jump (42-1.25).
On the girls’ side, Fort Plain had two champions, Sarah Florian in the discus (103-1) and Jordan DeNinno in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles (1:14.90). Florian almost won the shot put, too, but fell a quarter-inch short of Brianna Fitzgerald (30-1.25).
Dante Corriveau of Warrensburg was a triple winner in the boys’ 400 (52.13), 1,600 (4:35.42) and 3,200 (10:24.93).
Thomas Villano of Galway was second (117-1) in the discus to Cambridge’s Cliff Lewis (125-9) and was third in the shot put (40-1).
Clayton Welch of Fort Plain was second (5-8) in the high jump behind Lake George’s Samuel Burns (5-10).
Katie Stevens of Berne-Knox-Westerlo swept the girls’ 100 (13.00) and 200 (28.02), and Canajoharie scored well in the girls’ pole vault, as Riley Scofield (7-0) and Samantha Barlow (7-0) were second and third, respectively, behind Lake George’s Madeline Burke (7-6).
