BALLSTON SPA – Fireworks at a golf course Thursday morning led to lock downs at three Ballston Spa schools as the fireworks led to reports of shots fired, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.
An investigation into the shots fired reports quickly led to the golf course and fireworks set off to signify the beginning of a tournament, officials said.
The calls came just before 9 a.m. for possible shots fired at the Wood Road Elementary School in Milton. The school resource officer assigned to the scene and additional sheriff’s patrols began arriving within three minutes of the call, officials said.

Other students arriving were held on their buses and re-routed to other locations in accordance with the district’s safety plans, officials said.
Once the buildings were cleared by sheriff’s patrols, students and staff were allowed back inside, officials said.
“We are equally grateful for the person who made the report to us and for the fact that this was not an active shooter event,” Sheriff Michael Zurlo said in a statement. “Thankfully, we were able to quickly identify where the sounds came from and most importantly, everyone was safe.”
