
SARATOGA SPRINGS – A drunk driver led police on a brief pursuit early Wednesday, then crashed after authorities called off the chase over safety concerns, state police said.
The driver had to be extricated from his vehicle and was taken to Albany Medical Center and was in stable condition later Wednesday, police said.
State police also charged the driver, identified as Luke Benoit, 31, of Portsmouth, R.I., with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, police said.

Troopers spotted the vehicle then speeding and heading north the troopers attempted to pull it over, police said.
The driver, however, responded by accelerating towards Saratoga Springs. A brief pursuit began before police terminated it due to weather conditions, the high rate of speed and close proximity to Saratoga Springs, police said.
Shortly after the pursuit ended, however, troopers found the vehicle crashed in front of 125 South Broadway, the driver trapped inside, police said.
The crash remained under investigation later Wednesday, police said.
