The crash happened at about 7:47 a.m. on Interstate 87 in Malta, between exits 11 and 12, police said.

The preliminary investigation determined Covarrubias was northbound in the middle lane when she moved to the left lane and struck Suen’s motorcycle, state police said. Covarrubias then lost control, exited the roadway and struck a guiderail. Covarrubias and Suen had been traveling together at the time, police said.
