Caroga Lake motorcyclist killed in Tuesday morning Colonie crash, police say

COLONIE A motorcyclist from Caroga Lake was killed in a crash Tuesday morning in Colonie, Colonie Police said.

Frederick Franko, 64, of Caroga Lake, was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he died, police said.

The crash happened at about 7:41 a.m. on Route 7 in Colonie, near Spruce Street, police said.

Officers responded there for a report of the crash and that the rider had been ejected from his motorcycle and was seriously injured, police said.

A witness at the scene indicated the motorcyclist appeared to have been passing slowing traffic on the right when he lost control of the motorcycle, hit a storm sewer grate and was thrown from his motorcycle, police said.

The Colonie Police Traffic Division continued to investigate the crash later Tuesday.
