The investigation began when the victim’s teacher noticed concerning text messages on the child’s phone, prosecutors said. The school social worker then informed police of their findings.

The victim was interviewed at the Schenectady Child Advocacy Center, where she disclosed the sexual assault, prosecutors said. Medical evidence and text messages corroborated the child’s disclosure, prosecutors said.

Youth Aid Bureau Detective Kristen Florell investigated with the help of Schenectady County Child Protective Services.

Sheroka is to be sentenced later to seven years in state prison, with 10 years of post-release supervision and a full 25-year stay away order of protection in favor of the victim. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Sheroka pleaded guilty in front of Judge Mark J. Caruso. Assistant District Attorney Maria Apruzzese prosecuted. Sheroka is represented by attorney John Della Ratta.
