SUV snaps utility pole, rolls over on Route 50 early Friday in Glenville

GLENVILLE An SUV struck a utility pole, snapping it as the SUV rolled over on Route 50 early Friday.

The driver was taken to Ellis Hospital for a precautionary evaluation. A child in the vehicle was uninjured, police said.

The crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Route 50, near Socha Plaza.

The one-car crash left the SUV on its roof and the snapped power pole hanging from the attached wires. The driver, identified as Ayrelle Lewis, 20, of Schenectady, was headed south on Route 50 when the crash happened, police spokesman Lt. Matthew Weise said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation later Friday morning, but drugs or alcohol did not appear to be factors, police said.

The road was reopened to traffic by 7 a.m. National Grid was to replace the pole later Friday morning.
