SARATOGA SPRINGS – The woman detained Friday in connection with an apparent road rage slashing in Saratoga Springs has now been charged in the attack, police said Saturday.
Dimeiry M. Ortiz-Lopez, 20, of Ballston Spa, was charged with one count each of second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Ortiz-Lopez is accused of using a box cutter to slash the man in the neck just before 3 p.m. on Caroline Street, police said.
The victim in the attack, a 51-year-old man, was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment and has since been released.
Police were called to the area for a 51-year-old man who had been slashed and was being driven by private vehicle to Saratoga Hospital, police said. The slashing took place just prior to the call to police, police said.
The victim, who was driving a box van, had stopped on Caroline Street and had a verbal exchange with the female driver of a sedan, identified Saturday as Ortiz-Lopez, that had stopped behind the van, police said.
Police described the verbal exchange as brief, but it culminated with the man suffering a slash wound to his neck, police said.
Both vehicles and individuals involved then left Caroline Street. Police soon located the sedan and Ortiz-Lopez and detained her, police said.
“The incident seems to have stemmed from a disagreement over driving skills that took place a short time before the two vehicles ended up on Caroline Street,” police said in a release Friday. “It does not appear that the people involved knew each other at all.”
Ortiz-Lopez was arraigned and ordered held on $15,000 bond, police said.
