Peter Blegun

Valedictorian

The Albany Academy

Parents: Regina Velarde and Piotr Biegun

College or other plans: Attending Tufts University as a pre-med student.

Plans after college: Hopefully medical school, and then afterwards a residency in internal medicine or surgery.

What is the memory of high school you will never forget: Community service day. Every year, my advising group goes to Buckingham Pond in Albany to rake leaves in the fall and pick up trash in the spring. While the actual work itself is helpful to the community, I always enjoy just having a chance to talk with my friends outside of school. Sometimes, we pick up food on the way back.

Which teacher had the biggest impact on you and why: My adviser and Physics C teacher, Dr. Howard. I’ve known him for four years, and he’s always been around to not only help me with school-related things, but also as just someone to talk to. When I finally got to take an actual class with him (not just homeroom) it was my favorite subject all year.

What’s in your music player: Rock, be it 70s/80s/90s or 2000s. Currently, my favorite bands are Dire Straits and Pink Floyd.

Favorite book or author: Brandon Sanderson. I really enjoy epic fantasy
