
KOKOMO, Ind. – The scouting report said Kokomo can wear you down with its depth in the fourth quarter.
Whether the Albany Patroons got tired or not, their TBL East Regional Finals opener turned in the fourth quarter on Thursday night, as the Bobkats outscored Albany 41-31 to win 123-110 at Kokomo Memorial Gymnasium and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
Game 2 will be 5 p.m. Sunday at the Washington Avenue Armory.
Thursday’s game was close through the first three quarters, as the Patroon led 54-53 at halftime and by as many as eight in the third.
Kokomo chipped away and closed with an 11-2 run to lead by 82-79 heading into the fourth.
The Bobkats scored the first seven points of the fourth, pushed the lead to 100-85 with 8:09 left and held the Patroons at arm’s length the rest of the way.
Derek Hawthorne led Kokomo with 24 points, and only Jared Sam (32 points) and AJ Mosby (26) scored more than 11 for Albany.
