
The New York Racing Association recently announced its lineup of premium giveaways for the 2022 meet at Saratoga Race Course.
All giveaways are free with paid admission, while supplies last. Season-ticket and season-pass holders are not guaranteed a giveaway. Fans must present a coupon at designated locations at the track to receive a giveaway.
On Friday, July 29, the day’s giveaway is a Saratoga picnic blanket. The black-and-red plaid patterned blanket measures 52 inches by 47 inches.
On Friday, Aug. 19, the day’s giveaway is a long-sleeve T-shirt. The clothing item is a ringer-style shirt, which is white with red sleeves. The shirt will have a Saratoga logo on the chest, as well as NYRA Bets and FOX Sports logos on the sleeves. The shirt will be available in adult medium and extra-large.
On Friday, Sept. 2, the day’s giveaway is a mini-umbrella. The umbrella is red and white, and features the red Saratoga logo and black NYRA Bets logo.
This summer’s meet at Saratoga Race Course starts Thursday, July 14, and continues through Monday, Sept. 5.
HOBB NAMED MVP
Schalmont High School baseball senior Jerek Hobb was named this year’s Colonial Council Most Valuable Player.
A left-handed pitcher and outfielder, Hobb set a new school record with 238 career strikeouts. As a senior, Hobb was 6-2 with a 1.00 ERA and 104 strikeouts.
At the plate, Hobb batted .452 and had an on-base percentage of .580. Hobb scored 25 runs and had 12 RBIS, plus 10 stolen bases and nine extra-base hits.
Hobb will play in college at Stony Brook University.
Other individual award winners from Colonial Council baseball were La Salle’s Eddie Yamin (offensive player of the year), Albany Academy’s Aidan O’Keefe (defensive player of the year) and Albany Academy’s Geneo Savoca (pitcher of the year).
SCHALMONT GRADUATE OLSEN NAMED UTICA COACH
Rinae Olsen, a 2005 Schalmont High School graduate, was recently named the Utica University softball head coach.
A 2009 graduate of Utica, Olsen was previously the head coach at Skidmore for three seasons. In 2022, Olsen led Skidmore to a 24-14 mark and an appearance in the Liberty League tournament. The 2022 season was the winningest season in program history for Skidmore.
As a player, Olsen was a four-year starter for Utica and ranks sixth in games played with 147 and ninth in RBIs with 71.
Olsen served as an assistant coach at Utica and Ithaca before heading to Skidmore.
