Mayfield High School senior Kelsey Meca was recently announced as a recipient of one of this year’s scholastic awards from the Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization.

The CDSWOY awards recognize “the best and brightest female student-athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State,” based on “achievements in academics, athletics, and community service.” In total, there will be 10 high school and three college honorees. Previously, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School senior Carlie Rzeszotarski and Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School senior Ayaka Suesada were recognized as high school honorees.

Academically, Meca ranks fourth in her class at Mayfield, and is a member of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, among other honors. In athletics, Meca was this year’s Fulton County Female Athlete of the Year after starring in soccer, basketball and softball during her high school career. Among other endeavors, Meca’s community service involvement includes helping to clean up local historical sites, volunteering at a local health center COVID vaccination clinic, working with the Stanford Center for Sleep Medicine and the Children’s Miracle Network in fundraising efforts to raise money for narcolepsy research, and serving as a tutor.

This year’s Capital District Sports Women of the Year Awards Gala is set for Aug. 8 at GE Theatre at Proctors in Schenectady.
